Local festival Bungo in the Back Lanes celebrates its tenth year this month.

On Saturday 21 June from 1-4pm a host of stalls and events will run the length of the lanes between Nithsdale Road and Marywood Square.

Activities include a guided 'architecture walk', beginning at 1pm outside Sammy Dows pub on Nithsdale Road, looking at the work of Alexander Greek Thomson. The celebrated architect was once a Strathbungo resident himself, and his influence shows in the community's unique style.

For the kids there will be a Children's Garden on Nithsdale Lane complete with bouncy castle, face painting and games.

A jazz band, along with other local musicians, will be providing entertainment, with, for those inclined, a real ale and wine tent and beer garden to oil proceedings along. And there will be a conocupia of other stuff to see, do, eat and drink, all put on by local people, businesses and organisations.

The whole aim of the day is to help Stathbungo people get to know one another in a convivial atmosphere, and locals are also encouraged to get invloved. So to set up your own stall or to volunteer to help in any other way have a look at the Strathbungo Society's website www.bungoblog.com or phone 423 7756

A Glasgow group has called a vigil to commemorate Moira Jones, the murdered woman found in Queen's Park on 29 May.

The vigil, which will take place in George Square at 6pm this Friday, 13 June, will also remember Eleni Pachou, murdered in the city's West End, and other women killed in Glasgow this year.

A spokeswoman for the group who have initiated the event, the Glasgow Feminist Network, said:

"This will be a peaceful vigil with singing, flowers and candles. It will be a time to grieve for the women we've lost - but also a time to stand up, be counted, and let everyone know we won't stand for this anymore. Violence against women must stop."

She added that the event is not women-only and all are welcome to attend.

A couple are seeking the views of Pollokshields residents on their plans to open a local pharmacy.
Fara Jamil and her pharmacist husband Mohammed Khalil Jamil have applied for a license to open a pharmacy at 219 St Andrew's Road. The site was formerly run as a cafe, and is just next to the Honours Three pub.
Fara told G41:
"We're looking for the views and opinions of local people. And if people think it's a good idea we'd like them to say why - that way we can include their views in support of our application."
The couple also took their plans to Pollokshields Community Council on MOnday night, looking to hear the views of the meeting.
There was a lengthy discussion of both the application, and whether it would be appropriate for the community council to take a position - with some arguing that it was purely a business, rather than a community, matter.
Community councillors then agreed, by five votes to four, to send a letter expressing support for the application in the context of the wider regeneration of the area.
The application will be considered by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's Pharmacy Practices Committee.

So what do you think? With two existing pharmacies in East Pollokshields - at 198 Albert Drive and 116 Nithsdale Road - would a third on St Andrew's Road be a useful addition to the community?
The applicants are also seeking views on opening hours. They're proposing that their pharmacy would open 9am-8pm Monday to Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sundays.
You can have your say here, or email Fara directly: farajamil@aol.co.uk
